1444283 2018-01-01 00:27:00 I was doing a large backup to my Seagate 1TB external drive and decided to cancel it. It was very slow in cancelling so I stupidly disconnected the cable. There are two USB3 ports and neither now recognise the HDD. However, the USB2 ports do work and recognises the said HHD.

I have checked device manager and looked to see that the current drivers are being used. I have rebooted the PC (WIN10) but cannot get the USB3 to work. Have I done irreparable harm?

Would a system roll-back work? Any suggestions?

1444284 2018-01-01 02:16:00 Try uninstalling the USB 3 driver and then reinstall from Device Manager telling windows to look in C:\Windows\Winsxs for the driver.

Edit: found this more extensive info for repairing USB ports: www.drivereasy.com

1444286 2018-01-01 03:45:00 Thank you both. None of the options worked. I tried to get updated Win 10 drivers for USB3 from Asus but none were available. I then tried to reload the driver supplied on the disk that came with the motherboard but that seems to have been for Win 7 as the present Win 10 OS is incompatible. The motherboard is an ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3.

I imagine that restoring from an earlier backup of the PC won't work as the USB3 drivers would appear to be hardware related and would not be in the backup anyway.

1444288 2018-01-01 05:23:00 I have discovered that AMD have put out updates. I have downloaded them and will try and apply a little later as I have a job running. Bryan (147)
1444289 2018-01-01 06:48:00 I am extremely pleased to say that by downloading the AMD Catalyst software, all is back to normal.

Device Manager did not USB Hub (3.0) while I was having problems. This is now resolved so thanks for the suggestions.
