1443949 2017-12-22 06:43:00 What is the difference between a TP-Link 300 & a TP-Link 500 Thanks. PJ Poppa John (284)
1443950 2017-12-22 07:00:00 speed, 300mbps compared to 500mbps, for wifi.

Not sure if its 150mbps up + down, to get 300mbps or if its 300mbps both ways.

However, what devices connect to it may not even be able to get those speeds, but if they can, they'd benefit by it

What distance can I expect from either of them. PJ

1443952 2017-12-24 12:48:00 Range varies and depending on the band, you could expect upto 90m, but many things that interfere, lower this range dramatically. Realistically you could expect approx 40m but at that distance it could be poor. Kame (312)
1443953 2017-12-24 18:35:00 I did not know they produced a Modem that works up to 500Mbps. They do have Powerline Networking that will work over your Electricity Wiring at 500Mbps.
There are a couple of versions, both have 2 devices, one for either end and each end plugs into an electricity socket.
One uses Ethernet at both ends and one would plug into your existing Modem at one end and then you would plug the other end into the device. Of course it cant be a Mobile Phone or Tablet as they do not have Ethernet access.
The other type has an Ethernet connection at one end to plug into your modem and the other end has Wifi for use on things such as Tablet or Mobile Phone. The Wifi in this case will work "up to" 300Mbps. There are probably other models that will work at higher speeds.

What are the Model Numbers please of both the 300Mbps and 500Mbps Modems.

As a previous reply has mentioned it depends on the distance you are trying to work your Wifi and what type of walls etc or obstacles are in the way in your place how much speed you may get from your Wifi.
The other issue that can occur is if you use the same channel as someone else close by on their modem that will interfere with your signal and cause it to be lowered.
Note that speeds are "up to"

The other question I would ask is What do you want to use the Wifi for, do you what to stream Movies or You Tube to a phone or laptop or tablet or something a bit less than that?

I presume you are using ADSL (or ADSL2+) rather than anything faster.
What is your existing modem, Make and Model?
