1443793 2017-12-19 03:59:00 Just FYI
Another MS stuff up it seems , another major Win7 update issue
saw 3 PC's with it today.

Go into the Winupdate Menu : Get a update service not running error, even though the service is running

Caused by authcab.cab file past its expiry date .
As allways, some recommended fixes just just didnt work :badpc:

One way around it is to Del the softwaredistribution folder, but that will cause all sorts of other chaos , as it tries to redownload & install 2,3,4 year old updates
& then the Dec rollup still wont install.
Looks like one fix is to change the system date, winupdate will then run & get a new authcab.cab (havnt tried this , yet)

1443794 2017-12-19 20:28:00 I had this on my laptop about a month ago. Had to do a Google search to see how to fix it. Hasn't happened again since then. paulw (1826)
1443795 2017-12-20 02:41:00 Gee what a surprise ;) A OS no longer supported, and some "patches" for it break- surprise. Thought W7 was the Bees Knees ??

Windows 7 Extended support ends in January 2020, though I do understand what you mean.

This is nothing more than an unfortunate lack of "awareness" on the part of Microsoft....and whilst you'd think they'd keep these things in mind, sometimes things fall through the cracks.

The problem has now been fixed according to multiple sites... MS has updated the file in question with an expiration date of 2025... so the OP can rest assured they will be able to keep running their legacy Windows 7 OS until then.

I'm still perplexed as to why people are still so hesitant to move to Windows 10... this is Microsoft's flagship OS going forward so they will be pouring all their resources and development into this platform. I have nothing against Windows 7 users but sometimes you just need to let go and move on to an OS which is quite frankly better than Windows 7.

You know, I met a few support people in my various roles, who were quite nasty to the users .
Derogatory, sarcastic and put them right off asking for help from them .

You seem to like this sort of comment lately, why not just stick to being a kind and helpful tech?

As for the O/S not being supported, that never had anything to with screwed up patches, look at the latest screwed up patch for Win10 .

All my real customers don't have any problems at all, and I go a lot of extra mileage to help them, that's why they keep coming back if there's any problems . And 99% of the time its not OS related .

You don't want support - Sweet don't call again asking for help please, and I have also changed over your Nod32 licensing for yourself and son to your email address so you can handle it .

Exactly which "screwed up" patch are you referring to? Just curious as to why it was screwed up?

1443801 2017-12-20 20:09:00 Exactly which "screwed up" patch are you referring to? Just curious as to why it was screwed up? There have been plenty of "screwed up Patches" for Windows 7, to many to list here 1 by 1, do a google search for "windows 7 patches cause reboots" and the list has quite a few. :(

As per this W7 patch, wrong date -- sh1t Happens, ;) sometimes they get it wrong.
