History tells us this , as scientific bias and blinkered outlook happened over & over again in the past . As for the Moon/Earthquake debate of years ago, Case in point . Skeptics have been ridiculing K . Ring for years . On one particular day in CHCH, they tried to prove how wrong he was by sitting in a blding in CHCH on the day he predicted an aftershock . He got it right, skeptics & scientists quietly ignored this & never mentioned his correct prediction it again . So : bias , he simply could never be correct . So scientific bias & prejudice . Its there , its common . Thats why they will fudge,ignore data to suit Thats why they resort to name calling , the most immature of ~arguements~ : "deniers" The I'm right & you are wrong argument : just human nature . Experts do that as well Climate change . Of course its happening . It has allways happened since year 1 & allways will . |

| 1445589 | 2018-02-12 21:57:00 | NickG: He is young and sounds keen, probably sees things as black or white as we all do at that age, and can't stand fools lightly. He is in academia, an undergraduate in his final year so mixing with other like minded souls and will be getting cross fertilisation. Putting the world to rights everyday in the cafeteria with his mates:) I don't know how long the degree course lasts, presumably 3 or 4 years full time ? The thing that bothers me is the Economics, it is not really subject to the scientific method, en.wikipedia.org in the same way as a physical science is. Economists seem to get things wrong usually more times than the purely random choice method (my personal observation, not based on expert knowledge) though there are very clever mathematical models, and a lot of work has gone into modern economic theory. I plead guilty to showing my ignorance of the subject :eek: It's not a professional degree, so 3 years. Though I tacked on a couple of extra math and polsci papers which has made it a 3.5 year degree. Think you've got a slightly romanticised notion of uni life, but hey ;) You are right about economics - it is a social science, as opposed to a 'hard' science. Ultimately, it's based on assumptions, that may or may not be true in every situation - although we do consider what happens when those assumptions aren't true. Here is a great humerous take on some basic economic principles - even BM might get a laugh out of it :) (www.youtube.com) In terms of getting things wrong - we absolutely do. The world is a complex place with lots of things changing at any given time, and not being able to hold things contsant is a pitfall of any social science. Especially at a macro level, there are so many things changing at once over so many different countries. |

Experts do that as well Climate change . Of course its happening . It has allways happened since year 1 & allways will . I know nothing about Ken Rings science, but I do know a group of Farmers in the Matamata area who swore by his predictions and organised their farming around them . One kept records of his predictions v the Met Office and he was way in front . But a different guy on a different tact . I was in Aus years ago when they had the big drought and Brisbane was almost completely out of water . Anyway Ch9 news went to some outback town where they were nearly dry and really struggling . There they interviewed some of the locals and one declared he wasnt worried, it would rain in a day or two . They crossed back to the Weather Office who declared No Chance! Wouldnt you know it, that night it hosed down, as it does in Aus, so back go the News Crew to find the guy who said it would rain . Naturally they found him and asked him to explain . Easy came the reply, I watched the Termites in that log over there . It seems they were running around collecting food or something and that was the clue . So I guess the question is, how the hell did the Termites know and the Met Office not? Climate change . Of course its happening . It has allways happened since year 1 & allways will . As for Climate Change, that name was deliberately chosen after Global Warming was exposed as a fraud, and relies on the fact you cant deny Climate Change but you can Global Warming . However, its still the same Dog with a different name . |

| 1445592 | 2018-02-13 01:45:00 | I wish I was still young enough to think that I knew everything and could never be wrong. Some comments in this thread remind me of my kids when they were in their teens & 20s fortunately they have all grown up ok. One is now employed as a research scientist and has DSc after his name. I started work before I turned 15 and retired at 73 so along the way I have learned to be rather skeptical when anyone is trying to push their latest popular theory on me. Perhaps the easiest way to sort out who is telling the truth in these matters is to look at who is making all the money by pushing any particular barrow. | CliveM (6007) | ||
| 1445593 | 2018-02-13 01:57:00 | Yes Clive, in particular the fossil fuel industry and their shills. | KarameaDave (15222) | ||
| 1445594 | 2018-02-13 03:18:00 | Yes Clive, in particular the fossil fuel industry and their shills. But what about the Solar Panel industry, the Electric Car Industry, the Wind Turbine Industry, shall I go on, all which hung their hats on Global Warming being a fact. Remember also that there was 15 years (1998 - 2013) where there was no temperature gain at all, which somehow got explained away as a Pause. :lol: I dont expect you to see it as the Con job it was but others will. :) |

| 1445595 | 2018-02-13 03:33:00 | But what about the Solar Panel industry, the Electric Car Industry, the Wind Turbine Industry These industries are not the ones threatened by the truth, that would be the fossil fuel industry. So it makes sense that the vested interests of this doomed industry will cajole, brainwash and do all they can to muddy the waters. They certainly did a number on you B.M. (unless you have shares in them, in which case you are lying to protect your investment) I wonder which it is? Are you brainwashed or a liar? |

Let's say a psychic tells me some thing...a toss of dice can give me the same result. Having an aftershock after an earthquake isn't exactly a rare thing. So 50/50 and it happened, that makes this total nutter right all the time? Hell no. |

Certainly not Brainwashed Dave and unlike the Global Warming protagonists, dont need to tell lies . Just take a deep breath and think about the outcome if they had admitted they had it all wrong and all the industries that hung their hat on it being right collapsed . Dont worry, the chickens will come home to roost . :) |
