| 1445553 | 2018-02-11 07:53:00 | Simple - I'm not going to bite on that particular bait :) What the Hell are you talking about, did you not take your Medication today? You entered the thread saying that the Carbon Tax agreement should be rewritten and then take off on ridiculous tangents . Tell us why and how the Carbon Tax issue should be addressed from your point of view . My position is clear . Its a nonsense that will cost us (NZ) $1 . 4 BILLION a year, for the next ten years, which in turn will be absorbed by the scoundrel of 3rd world nations along with the High Priests of this religion . Little wonder Australia doesnt want a bar of it and America is going the same way . 8688 |

You entered the thread saying that the Carbon Tax agreement should be rewritten and then take off on ridiculous tangents. Tell us why and how the Carbon Tax issue should be addressed from your point of view. My position is clear. It’s a nonsense that will cost us (NZ) $1.4 BILLION a year, for the next ten years, which in turn will be “absorbed” by the scoundrel of 3rd world nations along with the High Priests of this religion. Little wonder Australia doesn’t want a bar of it and America is going the same way. 8688 Your bait being the 'Muhammad Ali School of Modesty' quip. In regards to the actual issue, I'm happy to answer. Having said that, I need to make a slight ammendment to an earlier post. The carbon tax is neither working nor failing, because New Zealand doesn't have one. We have an emissions trading scheme instead. The two are actually very different. My disliking for the NZ ETS is based on 3 main points. 1) Agriculture is exempt. THe agricultural sector is a huge contributor to our overall emissions, so exempting it from our ETS is laughable - it is a classic example of politics ruining policy. 2) Our government (this could be fixed by now, but I haven't seen anything about it) allows NZ companies to buy 'joke' credits from Russia and other countries. 3. Out government gives away the initial credits for free, as opposed to selling them. This wouldn't be so bad normally (due to trading fixing the lack of an initial price signal), however combined with the 'joke' credits NZ companies are allowed to use, it renders the overall scheme fairly ineffectual. Hopefully this is clear and makes sense. Always happy to elaborate :) |

All the ETS does is make money for those trading credits, increase costs for all of us and it makes absolutely no difference to whatever the climate good or bad. |

Absolutely right Clive, and to make matters worse there doesnt seem to be any accountability, even by third world standards, let alone any evidence of improvement in the bogus position we are supposedly in. Looking at the big picture, we have had the ETS for 10 years now and despite fine tuning we have absolutely nothing to show for it. Nowhere can I find an Annual Report showing the financials, let alone a glowing Auditors Report showing how we saved the planet. The thought of us paying $1.4 billion a year off shore for the next 10 years defies belief. Where would it come from? Oh wed have to borrow it. |
