Probably...

Yeah well, the other end didn't have an attachment that resembled a connector of sorts - it looked like a flat bit of clear plastic with incredibly tiny wires embedded? Even with my glasses on my old eyes couldn't make it out.

It didn't seem to connect to anything, though (obviously) it's meant to. I tried to slide it in to something, but yeah - gave up. Being smoke-free for a week ain't helping the patience levels either.

Will have another look tonight after a few bourbons. With alcohol comes clarity and wisdom.

1445021 2018-01-19 01:50:00 Give us a yell if you want -- Assuming you mean wainuiomata by Location The Nui.

Whats even more fun is when you reassemble a laptop, certain you have everything screwed up, and still left with a couple of screws afterwards

Yep - Wainui.

Similar problem but different - missing screws and the case won't seal shut properly.

If I wasn't giving up the cigs I'd probably have a better attitude towards the whole thing lol

with those flat cables , usually the end usually sits about where its connector is. :)
Connector may have an extremely small clip that needs to be flicked up(or out) so you can push the flat cable into it .

It you google the laptop, there are often Youtube clips or webpages that help with putting it back together
Webpage will show where all the screws go.
Cases have to be forced togther . There will be a bunched of clips that need to be pushed to to force those clips in.

The scary part is opening them up.
The sound of plastic breaking : its just the clips but it sounds like breakage

As for the eyes... the 1,2,3 dollar shop sell #1 non-script glasses for just a few bucks and they're as strong as anything you're almost ever likely to need.

Also another big hands up for a Toshiba -my dual drive lappie with its 17.3" screen is an absolute joy, which I'd never have considered before my last desktop packed a sad.

No, laptop GPUs are not upgradable.

1445027 2018-01-20 04:38:00 HN had a Dell Inspiron that looked like an option but with an AMD processor. The sales guy said they aren't as budget as they used to be but he agreed that compared to an Intel i6 or i7 it's a reasonable drop.
Do we agree?

1445028 2018-01-20 05:06:00 Not techie enough to be on the other forum .

I'm looking to buy a new laptop - I seem to go through them or they hate me . Either way, here I am . General purpose, can handle World of Warships, don't care about lightness/portability - more interested in grunt and build quality .

Also need to finance it, so buying my 1st choice (XPS 13) from Dell via their site isn't an option .

Budget is dependent on what repayments I can arrange - mid to high 2's maybe .

HP Spectre 13 sounds good, but have no interest in those 2 in 1 tablet convertible things - just want a simple clamshell . A Honda - bland as batshit but very well made and reliable .

Then I'm looking at Lenovo - Chinese brand built in the US - hardly a great reference but the more I look, the more I read good things . The business usage model, Thinkpad as opposed to Ideapad .

Acer / Asus - never been a fan . I seem to recall one is a cheapy/budget brand but can never remember which one .

MS Surface and Apple products look brilliant, BUT not at those prices .

Keen for opinions if anyone wants to contibute . Off to HN this weekend to have a squiz .

WoW extreme coolness
