1445009 2018-01-18 17:54:00 I had a Toshiba lappy and it had overheating problems when processing video. Other than that it was OK. I tend to stick with HP, and have never had a problem with the 3 that I have had.

1445010 2018-01-18 18:29:00 15.6" would be the most common size with gaming laptops.

Maybe, but I don't want a gaming laptop. It's used mainly for work, and other misc functions.
If it ran WoW then that would be nice, but don't care either way.
I may have given the wrong usage impression in my post.

I'm with you on HP though - got an opinion on Lenovo?

Something like that?
I'd say I have got the wrong impression haha thought you were after a gaming laptop. Lenovo are sweet as - their higher end stuff anyway. That really goes for any brand - you basically get what you pay for.

Dell also are very good with their Inspiron and Latitude laptops.

1445014 2018-01-18 19:41:00 I should say the HP Probooks and Elitebooks are great too. If you want something nice, either a HP Probook or Elitebook, Lenovo ThinkPad, or Dell Latitude would be the way forward. wratterus (105)
1445015 2018-01-18 20:21:00 Lenovo have been around for years They started in 1984, then brought IBM in 2005. Lenovo Have been for many years mainly business class Computers, compared to how long they have been going, its only recently they have gone into the everyday consumer market and shops started selling them ( I think around 2008). Most Lenovo's (business class and gaming) are not cheap as the mass produced budget Laptops that HP, Acer, ASUS, Dell sell. The beformentioned companies also do Business class, gaming etc, BUT of course you're paying more for them.

Laptops are good for being portable and lower requirements for space, but are limited to any upgrades. When things go wrong hardware wise, it can cost an arm and a leg to fix ( if out of warranty).

Building a desktop PC is not that hard as Wratterus pointed out, they have the options to upgrade components when required.. BUT the fun begins when you press the power button after finishing putting it all together and Awhhhhh %$*%^* Nothing :(

Like a New Desktop I'm working on now --- One plug not quite right ---OOPS. :D

The thing is also with building a desktop, if not enough money to buy everything at once you can buy piece by piece as $$ come available. Generally I'd recommend to buy the motherboard and CPU together, that way you have a pair to start with, its a real bummer if you buy a Motherboard and later find the CPU is no longer available.

1445016 2018-01-18 23:31:00 - got an opinion on Lenovo?

I have ... good hardware, crap support. Same with Dell (unless they have improved in the last few years)
3 days for their "next day onsite" . Their contracted out repair guys they send are good though (for onsite warranty) .

Lenovo are one of the most bloated with crapware brands out there. Expect to spend 1/2 hour removing all the crap/bloatware/trialware

That's one good thing about building your Own PC, you install anything you want.

Sometimes if the person wants - I 'll take a new Laptop, save the drivers first if its got a driver folder hidden or not, wipe the drive reinstall the OS, Drivers with no "extras" :) They run so much better.

1445018 2018-01-19 01:05:00 I might just have to find a reputable fix-it person and let them loose on my broken lappie.

There's seems to be a very flimsy cable flying around inside lacking a connection at one end with the other end connected to a green thing that could be the hard drive lol

I really shouldn't be in there ...
