I've used paint.net before, and it wors fine for the simpler tweaks to images, but it has to be able to handle raw files. I've also tried gimp and found I was wasting too much time trying to get to grips with it instead of just getting on and improving the image. Also, from memory it won't handle raws ; I seem to recall I had to install UFRaw to be able to do this - another layer of pain.

1444431 2018-01-21 08:36:00 try gimpshop. its different from gimp in that it attempts to actually emulate the photoshop UI (or atleast have some level of polish); YMMV

Sounds a bit iffy, but the second post says you can opt out of the PUP downloaders etc.
personally I would not take the risk....

1444435 2018-01-21 20:37:00 Yes, I just downloaded it, came with a lot of rubbish. Uninstalled everything using revouninstaller and ccleaner and did a scan. All alright now...I hope:confused:

But on the Lightroom front; I've persevered and actually, using the sliders gives some excellent results. I do tend to over saturate, so I should watch that one. The sharpening and clarity tools are excellent and there's a whole lot of "presets" that might come in handy for a desired effect.
I've gone with my own method of cataloguing etc. and export (save) processed jpegs to a specific folder of my choice, not letting Adobe do it for me.
Seems to work for me:)

That works, you will have your images etc on the exported folder. But Lightroom might not have the history of your edits. When you export it, I don't think LR keeps a copy of it. You will still have the original folders though and the history is kept so just don't go and delete that. Also if you have shot RAW and exported to JPEG, the exported folder is just JPEG, the RAW files would be in the original folder you asked LR to import into.
