702509 2008-09-04 08:00:00 Does anyone out there think the same as me, that there are people out there that should NEVER even own a computer, let alone go on the Internet? They are the ones that think they don't see the importance of having anti virus or anti anything on their PCs? I can name quite a few, although they are family and would never do that to them publicly.

My mind turns circles whenever they ask me a question, as I think to myself, OMG what have they done now!

702510 2008-09-04 08:24:00 Well being a computer Tech, running my own business some times that thought crosses my mind when you see the silly things people do.

While every one has different skill levels and people do have to learn - sometimes its all to easy to judge others when they simply don't know any better, or have not been taught.

What may be simple and easy tasks for some is almost impossible for others.

Its the ones who dont listen even after being told many times that need a good kick in the butt

702511 2008-09-04 08:31:00 Umm I could name a few

They shouldnt have a PC, or they should learn to read, or use Google

And even tho you tell people NOT to use programs, like Symnatec, and P2P programs, they never listen, get infected, then complain. Hm I wonder why

702512 2008-09-04 08:32:00 It is depressing to know that a computer you just fixed will be desecrated by the user as soon as they get it back.

On the other hand, it is very rewarding to teach someone who is willing and able to learn.

702513 2008-09-04 08:51:00 I do agree, teaching someone is most rewarding Greven, but as you say Speedy, some people either just don't listen, or don't want to know what is best.

I teach some older people in my area how to use their computers and look after them and they are fine. It is sometimes the younger ones that don't listen! Also get some that spurn all assistance till something goes terribly wrong!

702514 2008-09-04 09:05:00 My mother.
Even getting her to use the bloody television or vcr remote is a pain in the arse.

702515 2008-09-04 09:27:00 The ones I love are the people who "know it all" - had one today was swearing blue murder the only way to change the registered Owner displayed to her own name was to reinstall the OS and change then ---

While she answered her phone I went into the reg and changed it to her name - she was  - asked how I did it - I smiled/ chuckled :) but didn't answer - No way I was going to introduce her to the Registry.

702516 2008-09-04 10:15:00 Oh - some of my neighbours are not unique after all.
I had rather hoped they were.

702517 2008-09-04 21:53:00 Yes .
A guy once who had a really nice expensive gaming PC system . The only thing he used it for was viewing porn . Which he happily admitted . Waste of a decent PC .

I cleaned it out, fixed Windows, showed his mate how to keep it clean cause the owner wasn't interested, he was busy watching a porn movie while I did all this .

The following weekend they rang again and it was back full of malware . CLeaned it out again, stressed the need for scanning regularly, etc - the following weekend . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I told them how to get back into Windows which was damaged again and to do it themselves . Again .

They then rang me again for another 2 weekends until I told them to find another tech .

702518 2008-09-04 22:07:00 Sounds like you may have had a regular income Pctek:lol:

I have a customer much the same, he admits it right in front of his wife and teenage daughter :( - even though hes got all the good software, he has said to me that I can come back every 3-4 months to "sort out the PC" .
