| 823601 | 2009-10-24 01:24:00 | Hi all, I'm just about to make the call, but I'd like opinions on the final configuration that I've been quoted: Intel Core i7 860 Lynnfield 2.80GHz 8MB LGA1156 ASUS P7P55D Pro P55 DDR3 PCI-E LGA1156 SuperTalent Gold Series 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3-1600 CL9 LG GH-22LS50 22X LightScribe Black SATA DVD Writer Sapphire ATI Radeon HD5850 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 32MB Cache SATAII Corsair HX620 620W Modular Power Supply Silverstone Raven RV01 EATX Tower Case Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit OEM Total = $2279 Incl GST shipped. I'm thinking of changing the Super Talent RAM to Corsair TW3X4G1333C9DHX 2X2GB DDR3-1333 CL9. Is Corsair a better brand than Super Talent, and is DDR3-1600 better than DDR3-1333 in a P55 motherboard? I vaguely recall reading someone having difficulty with DDR3-1600 RAM not working properly. Also, the HD5850's are in short supply. Is it worth holding out for Gigabyte or XFX, or is a Sapphire-brand card okay? Cheers Lizard |

Not only that Asus and GB have reputable warranties while Sapphire is not widely known for reliable warranties. Lizard: SuperTalent is OK, but if there's a better brand for around the same price I'd go for the better brand. 1600 is fine for P55. Good if you're overclocking. |

| 823610 | 2009-10-27 20:11:00 | Most current 5850's are flat out reference design, doesnt matter if it has Asus or Ginsu 2000 stamped on it, you do need to consider price and warranty however, but the quality is going to be much the same accross the reference cards . LG optical drives are excellent and have a very low failure rate from past wholesale experience, as in i haven't seen a brand come back so little . There is nothing special about Asus drives to warrant paying more, sold those in the past also . . |
