701455 2008-09-01 11:37:00 When I'm considering a service supplier, I rarely consider the price of the equipment . I'm more concerned with the cost of running the thing on an ongoing basis - which is why I haven't gone to Vodafone for an iPhone .

My handsets are usually at the top end of the scale (and consequently fairly resellable when I've had enough of them), and if I have to pay for them, so be it . I change them every few years anyway (as do many users), so getting a 'freebie' $500 phone isn't a big drawcard for me (they recoup the cost of the phone by overcharging you on the plan they make you take) .

And this particular offer looks good (from my point of view) only to those customers already with Telstra - more hooks than a long-line!

701456 2008-09-01 18:45:00 For me, adopting this frivolous distraction of a "plan" would mean getting a Telecom landline connection, changing ISP's, getting a new phone, using Telecom's mobile service that does not cover my home, and paying more money too.
Aside from the disadvantages, there is not a lot of motivation to switch into a 2 year plan with a "service" that has a zero user base experience.
I think I might just pass for now, but I will earnestly recommend it to any telephone marketers, Key worshippers or spammers that I encounter. ;)

You have to sign up for 2 years to have landline and internet with them as well.

Yes, because better deals will be available within the 2 years.

As for the prefix, it will be whatever you have now if you keep your number.
I am with Telecom, took my 021 number with me (new phone needed of course)

You can no longer asume what network by prefix since the Govt forced number portability.

Doesnt sound like a free phone to me plus you get charged for calls and texts. Granted the per min rate is great price but if I only spend about $20 per month anyway on calls and texts in total so I dont see this plan as appealing. I am sure it will suit others though.

Current phone, calls and internet with Ihug (vodafone): $90 a month
New Telstra Deal as above: $112.44

I would have thought you were tied into them and their prices would go down with time.
Doubt anybody would tie themselves into a set price for 2 years.!

So therefore the price is wrong and so no catch.

Unless of course we are into subsidising telstra.
We know GF can, just look at car,but for the rest of us,no show.
