701912 2008-09-02 08:34:00 Interesting discussion. The only one I ever got was (Stoned).
This was for using floppy disks swapped with my boss re work info.
That was some time ago obviously.

In those days under DOS it was easy to write a batch file that would format the C: drive and do it in a manner that the user did not know. This is why I renamed the format command so that batch files would come up with "bad command or file name"

Not a virus the format command but can and will delete the entire contents of a drive. There used to be a switch "/s" that did the format in silent mode.

701913 2008-09-02 10:58:00 not many totally wreaked pc's, virus writers quickly realised that killing the pc stopped it spreading. tho some did employ a delay before killing the pc.

off the top of my head Chernobyl virus was fairly nasty. disabling system files and wiping bios.

701914 2008-09-02 11:12:00 One of the guys where I used to work got the 'ILoveYou' virus, at least I think that's what it was.
It overwrote all his MP3 and JPG files with garbage.

701915 2008-09-02 20:34:00 Ive never really seen a virus in action, dont think Id like to either, Ive only seen the dumb ones that are pesky more then damaging.

I remember seeing the Iloveyou virus on the news, I think thats was about the same time people were figuring computers are pretty handy!
