| 701550 | 2008-08-31 05:47:00 | I just love my new Sony DVD burner with hard drive. It's wonderful to be able to set it running then shave, wash and lock up etc before watching the program I want on "chase play" and being able to cut out the adverts. I have one little query though. Obviously I want to download some programs onto DVD disks. To be able to use the disks on another machine or my computer I have to finalize the disk. When I go through the process of finalizing, the burner leads me through the actions needed including showing me the type of graphic I can finish up with and even asking me to check if it is OK. But when it is finished there is no graphic content. No titles - no date - times etc. Just a list of Title 1 2 3 etc. The information is there on the disk - but not usable until I unfinalise it. Sony help was no help. The technician told me that he thought it was working as intended. Seems strange to me. Any ideas (am I using the correct disks?). |

They just eject when finished recording from the HDD, no finalising required. Then I just use the erase facility in the menu and re-record on them when he returns them. I assume it is not dvd+r or dvd-r you are talking about, because they are record once. Ken |

But when I tried running the DVD disk on either of 2 DVD players and 2 computers - all refused to do anything with it until I had finalized the disk. Strange. I think my disks are DVD-RW Getting some more tomorrow so I will make sure I get +RW and try again. |

| 701553 | 2008-09-01 03:57:00 | When I use the finalized disk on another unit (a DVD player), the menu graphic is visible but not on the Sony DVD Recorder unless the Menu button is pressed. Another thing I have noticed is that when I burn a DVD on high speed (quite fast, only 10 or 15 minutes for an entire DVD) it will only play on the Sony and not on other units. I have tried this using two different DVD disks including a Sony disk. Anyone else have this problem? |

| 701555 | 2008-09-02 00:24:00 | Well I read all the replies - and I have managed to get everything up and working fine. The reason for my failure at first was so simple it defies logic. I was expecting the things to start up and show me the graphics and the list of programs I had recorded just like that!! But all these other devices - computers and DVD readers do have something called - wait for it "a menu" I had not been using this. But now I have learned this involved process of pressing the menu button I have been able to get the menu up and running. Such is life. Again - thanks everybody. Tom |
