704540 2008-09-11 22:50:00 I just dropped my cellphone (elderly secondhand SE W800i from my daughter inthe UK) into a sink full of water (and spinach, so it sank slowly).

I took it out within 2s, removed the battery and SIM straight away (both were dry), and managed to get the faceplate off with the help of a really good YouTube video.

There is no actual water under the faceplate, but it does feel damp. The data card slot was dry. I've stuck the phone in a bookcase to dry out for 2-3 days. It was turned on at the time of the disaster, but I didn't press any buttons between it getting wet and removing the battery.

Is there anything else I should be doing? Taking it to Vodafone to be dismantled further?

Sorry for posting in Press F1 rather than the chat forum, but there are 5x more people viewing - and I can't afford another phone, certainly not like this one.

704541 2008-09-11 22:52:00 When you shake it can you hear water inside it? jwil1 (65)
704542 2008-09-11 22:56:00 nope. it looks pretty good annie (6010)
704543 2008-09-11 22:59:00 OK then - dismantle it - taking off anything that comes off easily (ie don't try and take out the screen lol) - things like the faceplate, battery, SIMcard etc, and put them all in a warm place (not in direct sunlight though) eg a hot water cupboard. jwil1 (65)
704544 2008-09-11 23:02:00 Thanks - I've taken off the faceplate and back, and removed the battery, sim card, data card, and the little rubbery key pad. It all looks dry inside, except for some mild diffuse visible damp just inside the side openings. I haven't got a hot water cupboard, but will take it around to my (other) daughter's and stick it in hers.

How long for? 2 days? 3?

Thanks for that, I appreciate the help.

704545 2008-09-11 23:06:00 Not sure to be honest - but try turning it on every 24 hours or so.

If anyone else on PF1 has a better idea I'd be interested to know too :)

704546 2008-09-11 23:09:00 Neighbour dropped his in a spa bath. He only took the battery out and left it, its fine.

However, I would perhaps give it a rinse in some iso then leave it in a hot water cupboard, or other warm room.
