| 703712 | 2008-09-08 22:06:00 | Hi all Ok about 4 months ago coming down the stairs from my office the phone rang and I turned to run up stairs and get it, but somehow i managed to slip and twist my knee while turning. My knee hurt for about a week and then subsided to only hurting if I sat down for too long and then tried to get up, (as My business is going down the tubes and i have very little work sitting on my bum hasn't been an issue) now I was under the assumption that self employed people weren't entitled to ACC, however I have just finished doing some temping work and my knee is feeling a shade tender from all the crawling round under desks and installing comps etc, anyway i mentioned the ACC thing to someone and they said that self-employed people can get ACC, but as I had left it so long I was probably ineligible. So my question is - Can self employed people get ACC - (all I want is the physio paid for) - Is there an expirey date for an injury? |

I once had similar to my back after lifting an elderly neighbour. Forget how long between the event and reporting it but it was quite some time and was accepted without problem for a series of physio visits. | Scouse (83) | ||

You don't get a choice you know, you send in your financials to ACC and they forward that on to ACC who use that to calculate what you owe them. Then they bill you. It sucks because there is a minimum amount you have to pay, whereas they only pay out based on your actual taxable income. Fine if thats high, but if you haven't made much then you'll get 80% of what you actually declared to IRD. Not worth it if your earnings were small. |

Some years ago I hurt my neck doing something and I didn't go see a dr, just took painkillers. Two years later I hurt it again and went to the dr who only charged $10 and referred me for a six week course of physio. All paid by ACC after me filling out the forms, and the date was taken from the first time I hurt my neck. I am only on a benefit and yes, Acc comes out of that before I even see it. |

Up to them, I have been informed in the past that aggravation of an old injury wasn't an accident and they cancelled my cover. They dismissed my paper work describing how I re-injured it and told me to change my lifestyle. Lmfao. |

| 703719 | 2008-09-09 02:56:00 | You've got a year from the date of injury in which to lodge a claim for an accident. Once you've done that, you're covered, even if it comes back and bites you later. It is true tho that if you're self employed, earnings related compensation does tend to suck. However all the medical/physio bills will be covered (apart from the surcharge - ACC subsidies don't cover the full cost of providing the treatment usually, except for surgery at some hospitals who have a separate ACC contract setup thingy). |

Even if it's earnings related stuff, in which case they can pretty much do as they please, you can always demand a review - they have review procedures. See their website - claims button has a problems page |
