2009-10-27 18:42:00 | Sometimes my MS Outlook can't or won't download my email from the server. I then log onto webmail, delete all spam, etc. and when I run Outlook again it downloads my email. The other day there was no spam and it still did the same. Am I missing something here, perhaps a tick or two? XP sarel

2009-10-27 18:56:00 | What mail was there? Do you start Outlook and leave it or do you just turn it off if nothing arrives immediately? Do you have a friend that sends every dumb joke even the ones with huge video attachments? | PaulD (232) | |
2009-10-27 19:00:00 | No, no friends like that. Start Outlook, wait for it to d/l and then it either appear or it give the standard fault message (unable to connect, yada yada). If no fault, sweet. If fault, go to webmail, exit again and start Outlook again and hey presto, it works. sarel

2009-10-27 19:10:00 | Which settings are you using Sarel, the old ones or the new ones? Go into Outlook - Tools -> Account Settings -> View or Change existing accounts (or just double click on your account if you use Outlook 2007) Check the following and post the info back here.. What is your.. SMTP server? send.xtra.co.nz or smtp.xtra.co.nz Under more settings, in the outgoing server tab, is anything selected there? In the advanced tab, what ports are being used? 110 and 25 or 995 and 465? Is SSL selected on any of the ports?

2009-10-27 19:25:00 | Cool. I've seen a few odd issues with Xtra email when the new settings are being used. Let us know what settings are being used and we'll give you a few things to try. :) | wratterus (105) | |

All the setups i've done in the last year have all been with their old settings and I've had no issues as of yet. Try the following and see if you have any joy. Inc = pop3.xtra.co.nz Out = smtp.xtra.co.nz SMTP = port 25 pop3 = port 110 SSL off (you can press restore defaults on this screen if there is such an option). Make sure you untick 'my outgoing server requires authentication' too. See how that goes. |
