824633 2009-10-27 06:51:00 We have quite a few dvds purchased in NZ but which are not region 4.

There is currently no app to keep the dvd drive from locking on the last region played, that we can find.

We used DVD43 under XP, and thought we'd try to run it in XP mode in Win7 64 bit.

No luck.

Any ideas ? Any great apps out there to help us watch legally .

824634 2009-10-27 07:00:00 Whats make and model is the DVD drive ? there are places that you can get firm ware upgrades, that remove the region locking. BUT its always a bit of a gamble, if the firmware fails you have a very nice door stop. Interesting read (www.doom9.org) - and of course its not breaking any copy right laws, as you are not making a copy of any DVD. wainuitech (129)

824638 2009-10-27 07:21:00 Make VLC the default player for DVD's then away it goes :) wainuitech (129)

824640 2009-10-27 07:41:00 Have you checked if DVD43 works natively in W7?

It works in Vista..

824641 2009-10-27 07:43:00 Yeah, its not 64 bit compatible.

Or is there a way to run it that I'm not aware of ?

Even when you run XP mode XP is still in 64bit unfortunately:(

Don't think there are any free ones that work in x64..
