704108 2008-09-10 21:14:00 I'm only a recent convert to FF3 from Opera, and would go back to Opera in a flash, if I could fix whatever changes v9.52 has introduced that causes ANZ internet banking to deliver a 'timeout' message, and kick me out...

v9.27 worked perfectly. :(

And as per a rant made earlier on this Forum, ANZ is not interested in supporting any browser that is newer than about 5 years old...

Why can't you use both, they can both be open at the same time.
Use FF for your banking and Opera at other times.
There is no reason to be just restricted to using one browser.

704109 2008-09-10 22:12:00 OK, go on...

A javascript debugger that can actually do stack traces.
The best set of dev tools I've found for any browser (yes I do know about the FF plugins).
Faster javascript engine.
Quick-reference menu plugin.
Almost everything included out of the box, rather than having to install a zillion and one plugins across several profiles.
No *&%@ing restart after installing new plugins.
Mouse gestures.
Proper hotkeys (makes mouseless browsing a pleasure, which I can't say for any of the others).
Decent bookmark synch.
Speed-dial.
Canvas-level (rather than text-level) page zoom.
Fit-to-width mode.
RSS reader.
URL prefixes for search.
Pipelining is on by default.
Extremely extensive page history features.
Similar features to the 'awesome bar' with none of the annoyance that FF's implementation has.
Fast (FF can feel a bit sluggish sometimes, don't even get me started on IE. WebKit browsers are OK.)
QT-based rather than GTK.
Extremely good per-site preference controls.
User styles & javascript out-of-the-box.
Detailed page load stats in the address bar.
No annoying panic about self-signed certificates - it asks you, then leaves you alone.
Minimal toolbars that don't get in the way.
Extremely good set of display options.
Screenreader emulation.
Tab switch on right mouse + scroll wheel.
Tab previews (thumbnail).
Better overall tab handling.
Better DOM support than FF.
Download manager also handles torrents.
Session management that 'just works'
Sessions actually save all that useful stuff that the browsers seem to purge on close.
Doesn't crash.
Netscape / Mozilla plugin wrapper.
32-->64bit plugin wrapper (to use 32bit plugins on a 64bit platform, e.g. flash).
'Quick Preferences' menu for those things one changes constantly.
Better search engine management (incl. much easier custom searches).
More extensive autocomplete & password management that allows the page to load in the background while the 'save / don't save' box is open (although I know that FF finally allows this as of v3).

That's just a quick list off the top of my head, I'm sure I could think of others if pressed.

You're right of course, Safari, but there are a few add-ons in Firefox that I use now that don't have equivalents in Opera (AFAIK, anyway - StumbleUpon, FireFTP, Interclue and Undo Closed Tabs to name a few)

704113 2008-09-10 23:06:00 Safari for me. I've tried Chrome but it didn't respect my proxy settings. IE 8 is too buggy for me at the moment. I've never actually tried Opera.

I'm using Firefox at work (Safari is awful on Windows) but Safari at home.

Undo closed tabs - press CTRL+Z. Not sure about the others though, I've never needed that functionality, but it's certainly worth having a hunt - Opera does have quite a few plugins available.

704116 2008-09-10 23:17:00 None of those

Out of curiosity, what do you use?

704117 2008-09-11 06:09:00 Hmm quite a few of you guys like firefox, but have you tried out 3.1? I like to compare browser bare bones, as in, no plugins, add-ons, or anything, just to see how good they are without other people writing stuff for them. Opera is pretty neat, and I love the acid 3 tests on it :) IE 8 Beta 2 is sure a step in the right direction, and I'm sure if MS spent a bit more time on it, it would be a great browser.

Now where is that download manager with stop and resume on IE 8???
Wish they had one...
