I contacted Greg Cooney as suggested by Terry and he told me that spray cans of "instant crinkle" are definitely available in selected hardware stores so I know where to go now. I should have thought of Greg myself, I visit his website often enough. Anyway, I wanted a straightforward one-step process and it looks like I've found it, so I'll post the outcomes in due course.
