824643 2009-10-27 08:05:00 I'm using VLC in Win 7 64bit but not in XP mode as I have home premium gary67 (56)
824644 2009-10-27 19:51:00 Even when you run XP mode XP is still in 64bit unfortunately:(

Don't think there are any free ones that work in x64..

XP mode runs 32bit Windows XP not 64 bit

There are 32bit and 64bit versions of Windows Virtual PC that run on top of Windows 7, but Windows Virtual PC runs 32bit guests

XP Mode is 32bit

Windows XP 64bit was a very niche product, actually built on top of Windows Server 2003 not a 64bit bit Windows Client product that came out at the same time as the 32bit versions ala Windows Vista and Windows 7

Ok, then what is the reason that even XP Mode 32bit cannot run 16bit?

I'm curious as to the diferences...:)

Use that, it costs, but it's brilliant! :)

824647 2009-10-27 22:29:00 Flashing your DVD drive with region-free firmware will be the best option.

Then it matters not which OS you are running or what DVD you are playing, and you don't have to pay for any extra programs

Are you sure the drive is Asus M51SN? That's a laptop apparently, not a DVD drive...

XP Mode can run 16 bit apps, 64 bit OS can't run 16 bit apps

i.e. I have an old DOS app from 1979 runnng on my Windows 7 x64 bit machine right now through XP Mode, that app won't run on Windows 7 x64 natively

x64 can run 32 bit apps through WoW Windows on Windows layer but not 16 bit apps.

824649 2009-10-28 03:46:00 That said, Dosbox works a treat, even on 64-bit Win7.

However I've got a few other apps that won't run in DosBox (16-bit apps) that DO run under XP-Mode :)

It's a great feature for all that legacy crap you just sometimes can't get away from ... !

Yea, I meant to say "64bit" in my post:p

Thanks for the clarification, makes perfect sense now:)
