704081 2008-09-10 05:17:00 Hi One and All
I run a Sanyo 8400 on the Telecom network
I am happy with the features and usability of the phone.
My issue is that the coverage/reception is far from the best. Total dropoffs from full coverage to no coc=verage in the space of seconds, calls going to voicemail even when the phone shows reasonable signal strenght etc. I did of course not discover this untill after the 7 day return grace period had expired. In my discussions with various departments of the Telecom provider, I spoke to a tech who acknowledged that this phone is noted for bad reception. I have tried to get Telecom to replace this phone but as I have had this phone for 6 months now, I do not see this happening. The phone works fine in any metropolitan areas.
Does anyone know of a site that lists what phones are better in fringe areas?
Telecom are not keen on saying that one phone is better than another as this would leave them open to calls of selling phones not of merchantable quality
I have had a look at the TUANZ site but there is little information there.

Any input would be appreciated.

Cheers
HH

704082 2008-09-10 05:51:00 I have seen the same things with Sanyos on CDMA. I have a Nokia 6155, and frequently I will have solid reception when people with other phones, especially Samsung and Sony have none.

My advice, get a Nokia. If you're on contract, telecom should swap your phone if you can prove it's not doing the job it should.

704084 2008-09-10 06:24:00 Sorry, that should have been Samsung and Sanyo. Sony make great phones too. wratterus (105)

Previously I had a Nokia 6255.
Good phone, great reception, but had an ignominious end in a violent and unsympathetic toilet bowl.
I was due for an upgrade and Telecom sent me a Samsung, which I returned as it didn't have voice dial. They then shipped the Sanyo 8400 which as stated previously does everything, except give good/any reception where my Nokia did.
Maybe I'll have another go and see Telecom will come to the party
Cheers
