706455 2008-09-20 02:03:00 Looking for someone or somewhere that I may be able to obtain a comparison between 1926 prices and today. For example, ₤400 in 1926 would be worth what today?

I would look on Google or Wikipedia but what do you enter as a search? I have had no results with what I have entered.

Any ideas where I might look, please?:thanks

706456 2008-09-20 03:24:00 Try a search using "average wage" or summat like that. I looked once to do a petrol price comparison. Was on NZ government stats site. Heaps came up in Google NZ pages search.

Would look but SWMBO is champing at the bit to go out.

Good luck

706457 2008-09-20 03:39:00 The Reserve Bank has a CPI Inflation calculator. ₤400 in 1926 would be worth just over $33000 today. PaulD (232)

The fact that you mention 400 pounds gives me no clue as to which country you are in.

Using this method I come up with $33,130.36

Sorry about that, chief. Same as you, but we were using ₤.s.d. until July 1967.

$33,000 sounds close. It was the value of a community hall in 1926.

Thank you Paul. I had no idea that calculator existed. Just the ticket! I may need to work out a few more. Most helpful. It's easy when you know where to look, eh?

The people who built the hall raised the money themselves, so it seems as though ₤400 was not a bad effort.

Thanks, Ken. I see that you are still the boss in your household when your SWMBO lets you be. (Grovel, grovel.)

Know the feeling. I do sympathise.

I have a large notice in my office that states:

"The views of the husband in this establishment are not necessarily those of the management."
