825854 2009-10-31 06:52:00 I am always seeing Macintosh computers being used on TV as props.
My question is, do these computers work, and are they supplied by Macintosh free of charge to advertise them?

I think that more harm than good comes from this. People could get the impression that they are not fit for anything else!

825855 2009-10-31 07:08:00 It is because a Mac looks good and photographs well.
Apart from that they do actually work great too.

825856 2009-10-31 07:13:00 Perhaps it's because the 'Creatives' are unaware of the alternatives:D KarameaDave (15222)
825857 2009-10-31 09:37:00 Why on earth would they want an alternative ? limepile (96)
825858 2009-10-31 09:47:00 Product placement, Its marketing/advertising.

Apple pay to have there products in shot, That's why they are always square on and logo is predominantly displayed. Oh look,Petra is sitting at a Mac Book, I can barley see her, But there's no mistaking that laptop which has no reason in a million years to be in the shot.

Bad enough on TV, Makes me spew in movies, I am Legend was probably the worst I have seen for it.

825859 2009-10-31 19:30:00 I think that more harm than good comes from this. People could get the impression that they are not fit for anything else!Every company uses product placement. In War of the Worlds, they could have just talked about a PVR but instead they talked about Tivo, in 24 Jack could just be using non branded phones, but there is normally a prominent manufacturer and carrier logo on them (Sprint, Verizon, Palm etc) etc. As Metla says, its just a form of advertising. :)

btw. Apple makes computers called Macs. Hence, Apple would be supplying them, not "Macintosh" - a common, but not excusable error (to quote Sheldon Cooper). :p
