825749 2009-10-31 01:51:00 I am looking to upgrade my grphics card which i have now (Nvidia 8400GS) , and i have come across these three which are in my budget, but I cannot choose between the three.
The 4850 is faster, but more heat/pwr consumption. The 4770 is slightly slower but less heat and newer. The GTS 250 -faster? some heat but OLD technology.

Which one should I get, if they were to be around the same price?

plus, i am intending to upgrde to core i7/i5, so hopefully no bottlenecks?
I game on a 19" LCD (1440x900)

825750 2009-10-31 01:54:00 I would get the 4870. A little bit pricier than the 4850 but a better card overall.

What size screen do you plan to game on and what resolution?

What are your current system specs?

825752 2009-10-31 02:00:00 What brand PSU?

For that screen, I would get the 4870. What games do you plan to play?

4870 might be too much of a stretch... is GTS250 much better than the 4850?

825754 2009-10-31 02:04:00 No-they're generally pretty neck and neck.

825755 2009-10-31 02:05:00 do you think its better getting an older series or newer one? (all for future proofing ) secureprivacy (11611)
825756 2009-10-31 02:13:00 IMO No, as it performs the same any ways. Only thing you could be worried about heat and overclocking, but thas probably not that much of an issue. Blam (54)
