2009-10-29 22:30:00 | Hi guys and hoping you can please help and advise me. I have Windows XP Home that I did a format recover, bad thing to do, about a month ago. Having a problem that I can't access the System Restore program. I click, on it and nothing happens. I have clicked on it, in the morning and in the evening still not loaded. Using C Cleaner it does tell me there are restore points. I asked on here and Google to no avail. Only thing I could get was to, "Preform a repair instal of Windows XP. Okay, if I have to, but my question is does it restore to the SP on the install disk so I have to go through all the sodding updates again? :badpc: :badpc: :badpc: Thanks, Ian.

Next, in the "Files Needed" dialog box, click "Browse". Using the new instructions, Locate the Sr.sys file in the C:\Windows\Service Pack Files folder, then click the “Sr.sys” file, and then click OK. Follow the prompts, Reboot and System Restore should be ready to use. |

2009-11-02 20:55:00 | OK, try this then: 1. Restart your system 2. When the system first boots, type F8 to bring up the boot menu 3. Select the Safe Mode with Command Prompt option 4. Log-on as administrator if needed 5. At your command prompt type %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe 6. Hit Enter 6. This will open the system restore wizard

2009-11-02 22:31:00 | Went to:- Select the Safe Mode with Command Prompt option. cd restore and typed rstrui.exe and command prompt came back. Restarted Windows and tried to run rstrui.exe from the restore and,,, nothing. Can I asked, again, If I do a Preform a repair install of Windows XP, does it take me back to square one? IE no updates, at all? If so I'll have to do it closer to the 20th of month when my broadband rolls over. Thanks, Ian.

2009-11-02 23:13:00 | No it most likely wont have any updates installed. However, whenever you download an update, is saves the install files somewhere. If you check in Program Files, there should be a folder called WindowsUpdate. Check in there for any updates that youve downloaded
