825360 2009-10-29 12:48:00 I will use this partition as example. I made 50GB partition on my new hard drive why does it only show 49.9GB instead of 50GB? It’s small amount of missing data, but would like to find out what is happening. This same situation also applies to my other partitions on my new hard drive.

I looked at the properties using My Computer on my old hard drive partition and it gives me correct amount of data on the partitions. Originally setup these partitions when I first installed Windows XP several years ago. I would appreciate anyone's help.

Appreciate your response, one thing I don't understand is why did my old Hard Drive which was partition have rounded of numbers and is installed in the same computer.

Example I have 40GB partition in my 200GB Hard drive and when you look at it under My Computer it actually appears as 40Gb not 39.9 as example. Only the last partition on old h/d was not rounded because it would be impossible to have 5 Partition rounded of 40GB because of how Windows reads the h/d.

825363 2009-10-29 19:23:00 Was the old HDD formatted using FAT32 or NTFS? I presume the new one is NTFS. Same OS on both? All these things are factors in how drive space is reported.

Also did you make the partition 40GB, or 40000MB?

Exactly - because 1GB = 1024MB so if you formatted it is 40000MB it's not going to be the full size.

1024 MB x 40 = 40,960 MB

Are you sure the partitioner didn't say GiB or MiB?
