825242 2009-10-29 07:00:00 Hello, ive run into a little problem.
I was doing the anual Scans with an anti malware program and it seems to have deleted an important file that my Xp home edition needed. Everytime I try to log into the administrator account it'll prompt me with a command panel ( C:\WINDOWS\system\command.com). it will then show an error box called (16 Bit Ms-Dos subsystem) inside that it says C:\WINDOWS~1/Symantec\S32EVNT1.DLL has failed instilization. it then has to boxes ignore and close. when i click one it will just reopen but in a different place on screen. Can someone please help me out? All I have to work with is a windows xp restricted account that cant download or install anything...

Seems to be related to Norton/Symatec AV

Can you ctrl+alt+delete twice at the logon screen quickly, then type in "Administrator" for username and northing for password? Does that work?

825244 2009-10-29 07:34:00 no its not a problem with the actual log in that seems to be working fine,
the problem is that just befor it loads up all my desktop icons start bar and user interface etc, it will open a command prompt in which it will stat that C:\WINDOWS\~1Symantec\S32EVNT1.Dll - An Installable Virtual Device Driver failed Dll instalization Choose close to terminate the application. Then when i click that it will only move the message a little to the left.

Understood.

Looks like you'll have to replace the files manually:

support.microsoft.com

Try method two first, and if that fails, try method 1

825249 2009-10-29 07:55:00 Can't do either methods acces is deinied to both, can't use this restricted account to do so Shattered Reflection (15388)
825250 2009-10-29 07:58:00 Why can't you logon to the admin account? There's not much you *can* do on restricted.. Blam (54)
