705553 2008-09-25 01:45:00 The ads are out of my control.
The forum clock is out of my control, believe it or not.

I use, and PCW magazine endorses, AdBlock to get rid of ads on this page and indeed the entire interwebs, you know, series of tubes etc. There are also excellent independent scripts available through links on this forum, that will rid you of the problem.

I have asked the right people to sort the clock, as well as the ads. I might also add that a brilliant person on this forum did a smart thing, by sending an email to our advertising department (whose email you can find on our websites), asking about the ads and pointing out that they seem detrimental to the site. This actually led the advertising dept to start thinking about the ad placements on the site, and it got a proper discussion going. (You are the customers, creators and keepers of PressF1, people will listen to you more than me.)

Constantly telling me about it doesn't do much, even though i wish it did. Reminding me that I've told you guys before that I've told other people about the clock, does absolutely nothing. Keeping tabs on hours and minutes since i told you does nothing.

I have the same concerns about this site that you do, and I am actually trying to make things better. Until I succeed, keep doing what you're doing.

In the meantime: check this (www.pcworld.com ps.html) site out if you want to get rid of ads, popus etc. In use AdBlock, which does a decent job and can be found here for firefox. (addons.mozilla.org) I also use the system tray clock to tell me what time it is. It's crazy, I know, but it works.

705556 2008-09-25 05:01:00 What someone did that? And it worked? Who would have thought that after all the stick I got for pointing out the bleedin obvious .....Several someones have emailed them, that I know of - not just one. Not sure if they got mine though - every time I have ever emailed the PCW ad department, including recently, it's like I'm sending the darn things to /dev/null. No replies have ever been forthcoming. and one e-mail managed to accomplish that!

Well why didn't any of the previous ones sent by Erayd, myself and others "get a proper discussion going" and actually DO something about it?

I also use the system tray clock to tell me what time it is. It's crazy, I know, but it works.

yes very easy - so all we need to do formulate the time differential for the day (today seems to be 34 mins ) and add that to the post times, then subtract that from the time on the system tray clock, and we'll know how long ago the post was made... crazy, but it works I suppose

I have no idea, as those emails weren't sent to me. The ad dept brought up this one email, maybe there were more :) I'm all for more people letting the right people know when something is wrong, or they're not happy with things.

I'm continously trying to get the clock fixed, or even better, create a solution where this doesn't happen anymore. The problem is that most people in here seem to think i have ultimate power and knowledge when it comes to this site and forum. I don't. I have no reason to want the clock to be wrong, trust me.

i.am.trying.

705559 2008-09-25 07:54:00 Quite possibly when I sent one in I didn't push send hard enough so it stopped just short of the inbox :( R2x1 (4628)
