825272 2009-10-29 20:53:00 Dell use to sell cheap crap but now there consumer computers are good quality at a good price. i currently own one of the dearer xps models and i am very happy with the features, build quality and performance.
They aren't the second largest pc manufacturer in the world for nothing.
The one brand you shouldn't trust is ACER, unreliable Chinese junk.

Yea, the XPS's do seem to be good value, but for the price I could probably have a slightly better PC built with more features..

825274 2009-10-29 22:17:00 Getting parts & warranty repairs is just too painfull a process with Dell.
They even REFUSED to tell me who the NZ service agent is, so no option to go directly to service agent for non-warranty repairs (for example: a laptop with hardware issues)

825275 2009-10-29 22:18:00 Had a look at Home Premium on Google & couldn't see Word or Works included. Also that Outlook Express has gone, so what to use instead, apart from Windows Live mail? PJ

Another thuhght, would MS Office Proff 2003 work on W&? pj

825276 2009-10-29 22:22:00 ThunderBird? Outlook if you have M$ Office? Blam (54)
825277 2009-10-29 22:27:00 Word and Works arent part of any version of windows (Unless it's an office trial). Its separate. 2003 should work in Win7 Speedy Gonzales (78)

Have got MS Office Proff 2003. I assume it is a 32bit program, Yes?. Would it work on a 64bit system? PJ

825279 2009-10-29 22:34:00 32 bit programs will work on 64 bit. Its 32 bit drivers that wont work Speedy Gonzales (78)

Their service agent is Unisys. They also have a logistics firm based in Auckland handling spare parts on their behalf. I never had any problems with warranty support - a simple phone call, and a Unisys tech showed up at my door the next morning and replaced the parts onsite.

825281 2009-10-29 23:38:00 Ive never had a problem with there onsite repair work/techs. It getting through to book a repair or order parts thats an ordeal
1/2 -1 hour on the phone to order parts is NOT acceptable

Not just me, Ive had quite a few jobs where customers have given up in frustration & were willing to pay just to have someone else have to deal with Dell support.
