706759 2008-09-21 19:51:00 Has anybody else noticed that Banks are taking an extra day or two to process Internet Transactions?

I’ve found that accounts I have paid on say a Monday, don’t appear in the payee’s account until Wednesday or even Thursday.

Previously, if I made an Internet transfer on say Monday morning, it would be transferred midnight Monday and be in the Payee’s account Tuesday.

It seems to me the banks are sitting on the money for as long as they can.

A friend tells me that if somebody pays him say $1000 by Internet transfer he can only access about $200 of that immediately and the rest is drip fed by the Bank.

The deposit shows on his account and has gone from the payer’s account but the money can’t be fully accessed.

Beats me, I’ve never heard of this before, I hope it doesn’t have more sinister connotations. :crying

706760 2008-09-21 20:06:00 My banks don't seem to have changed anything.

Which ones are you referring to?

706762 2008-09-21 20:44:00 I've been with Westpac since internet banking started, and it's never happened to me B.M. - I send and receive money for Trade Me transactions frequently, and it always clears around 10:00pm the night the transaction is made, unless it is made after (I think) 8:00pm nofam (9009)
706763 2008-09-21 21:19:00 I'm with ASB, nothing's changed. wratterus (105)

I'm with KiwiBank, no problems here. Why not phone your bank and ask them?

706766 2008-09-22 03:30:00 We paid Visa on a friday(via Kiwi),but Visa said it was late and charged us interest, money was due on Monday.
It went out of our a/c on Friday,I reckon somebody was getting weekend +mon. interest.

But who?

I think you may be onto some of the problem when you say that possibly Fridays payments don’t get processed until Monday and then don’t reach their destination until Tuesday .

Interesting it’s gone out of your account the moment you hit confirm .

Lakewoodlady:

Well I’d love to be able to speak to somebody but after pushing a hundred digits I wound up back at square one . Even pushing 0 and * repeatedly failed to find a human . I guess if I had got one it wouldn’t be able to speak English anyway .

Cicero:

Yep, that’s what I’m talking about . In some cases, although you’ve made the payment in plenty of time it hasn’t reached it’s destination on time . Which raises the question you pose of where is it?

On a slightly different tack it surprises me that with Finance Companies and Major Banks going broke every day, it seems odd to me that the Credit Card companies haven’t suffered the same fate . Given that there is trillions of unsecured dollars floating around somewhere out there, I find it incomprehensible that they didn’t go before the Finance Companies and definitely before the Banks .

Maybe somebody can explain this phenomenon to me? :D

No.

What usually happens though is transactions are done at midnight of that day, so long as you do it before (usually) 8pm.

If its after then its next day afetr that. Weekends don't count which is why they show up as having come in on Monday midnight.

Its not the bank exactly, its the processing people, which used to be EDS, dunno if it still is.

The exception is same bank transfers.
