| 706669 | 2008-09-20 23:25:00 | GENEVA (AP) — The world's largest atom smasher — which was launched with great fanfare earlier this month — has been damaged worse than previously thought and will be out of commission for at least two months, its operators said Saturday. CERN says the damage to its new particle collider was in a different place than a previous transformer failure. CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, says the new problem occurred during a test at high electrical current. The incident resulted in a large helium leak into the 27-kilometer (17-mile) circular tunnel under the Swiss-French border.
