826621 2009-11-02 23:08:00 Hi

I am going to be helping someone set up an extra account ( their business email) on their home computer.

They are using Woosh as their ISP.

Does woosh require you to use their SMTP servers for a,, email accounts, or am I able to use the businesses SMTP server.

The Woosh site is worse than useless in trying to find info and I am assuming the helpline will involve a 30min wait

Cheers

It may help if you gave more info yourself. Like what O/S and email client(s) are used at the locations involved for example.

826623 2009-11-03 00:02:00 O/S & mail client are irrelevant.

If they are blocking port 25, you could use 587 (or anything else) but that would require setting it up at the business end as well (if not already, as Xtra blocks port 25 by default).

Hi Sweep,
As fred said those are irrelevant (although it is outlook express so some version of windows), the problem if it exists is that some ISPs block port 25 and sometimes other ports to prevent use of 3rd party smtp servers (Xtra does or used to), I have no idea if Woosh does and i can't find any info on their site

826625 2009-11-03 00:25:00 Easy, try it, if it doesn't work, use the Woosh SMTP server :) inphinity (7274)

I think only Xtra did/does that, but since they now use Yahoos free sevices hosted in the US, thy no longer do this. How about emailing them for the settings you need, better than phoning, as you have a permanent copy to cut and paste in. Just depends on how good their email support is, which probably isn't good.

826627 2009-11-03 03:23:00 Well it worked fine first pop, so they don't appear to block port 25.

The only prob i had is that outlook express doesn't remember the password and it has to be entered everytime outlook express is opened.
