826336 2009-11-02 00:11:00 Hi Just wondering if there is an easy to setup remote support program to support a linux server from a windows or linux pc. With step by step instructions a noob can follow.

Thanks in advance.

826337 2009-11-02 00:12:00 VNC maybe? Linux is bound to have some sort of RD client already there.

826338 2009-11-02 00:16:00 "server"? Almost every single linux machine has SSH on it (Generalization but still), which is your bread & butter remote-support.

Depending on their Desktop Environment, KDE / Gnome both have a VNC Server option built-in that you can use.

What distro is the "server" running, and what have you got going on it? Is it a Desktop or Server?

826339 2009-11-02 00:50:00 It's running deb 5.0 lenny andreas.hagen (15380)
826340 2009-11-02 01:21:00 Are you using CLI or a GUI on the server?

If using console:
apt-get install openssh-server
then port forward tcp port 22, to the the server from your router/firewall and your done.

What is this servers use? You're being *very* vague here! The more information you provide about what you're doing, why you're doing it, and what you hope to achieve, then the better we can help and the less 1-line replies you'll get...

826342 2009-11-02 03:16:00 Hi it's a file print fax server that I want suppor remotely via standard Internet connection andreas.hagen (15380)
826343 2009-11-02 03:16:00 it requires gui support not just cli andreas.hagen (15380)
826344 2009-11-02 03:32:00 Why does it require GUI support? For that kind of thing you can simply use SSH?

Anyways, easiest way: In the DSL Router, Port forward TCP Port 5900 to the Server.

Then depending on your setup, if you've already got GNOME or not.
If you do, try:
gnomejournal.org

If you have no GUI currently, or want to go for a standalone option, try:
