826116 2009-11-01 05:04:00 I have a Netgear FA311 card installed in a PCI slot, as the onboard NIC disappeared on me a couple of months ago (Gigabyte M61PME-SP2 board). The Netgear works fine with my XP install.
But, I have installed Win 7 Pro, on another HDD and it just won't pick up the device or let me install drivers. Yet this device has worked fine with a previous install of win 7 RC.
Anyone got any ideas about what I should do? I have already thought about the obvious; "get a new card you know is going to be compatible". Along that line, can a good win 7 card be recommended please?

826117 2009-11-01 05:18:00 The actual bought version of Win 7 varies slightly to the RC due to refinement from microsoft so this would most likely be the reason. You can try get drivers again for it or go for some cards like this:
www.trademe.co.nz
Anything that works with vista should theoretically work with Win 7.
Try TradeMe (http://www.trademe.co.nz)
or DSE (http://www.dse.co.nz)
Hope this is useful!

826118 2009-11-01 21:22:00 If it works in the RC it really should work in the retail version.

kb.netgear.com

Which one of these is your card?

826119 2009-11-01 21:41:00 FA311v1 is my version.

I thought it should work too, as it did with the RC?

826120 2009-11-01 21:46:00 Have you tried this ? (kb.netgear.com) Speedy Gonzales (78)
826121 2009-11-01 21:57:00 Just to be confusing the v1 and v2 use completely different chips.

If you had the v2 it would be easy, it's a Realtek RTL8139 which are one of the most common NIC chipsets around

The v1 uses the National DP83815

They highest driver they supply is for XP, www.national.com

Which might work (though I don't expect it to)

Bit to try there before I rush out and buy a new one.

826123 2009-11-02 00:40:00 Perhaps you could try to make the RTM load the driver from the RC DVD? Agent_24 (57)
826124 2009-11-03 04:08:00 I tried everything suggested and thanks, I appreciate your help, but nothing worked.
So, I just went to town and bought a $15 card with a Realtek chip. Installed it, fired up Win 7, and it was away, installed the drivers automatically, in a twinkling of an eye:clap
