707871 2008-09-27 19:16:00 I think they should just concentrate on making the code smaller and tighter.

But from M$S point of view, they are in trouble because since XP there are no compelling reasons to buy the new versions. Eg Vista only gives me a couple of nice interface benefits. Hardly any reason to shell out big bucks

That's why so many companies have stuck with XP. It sounds like 7 will be the same.

And here is a point ! If you are on XP and want to get 7 will you have to pay for Vista ?

707872 2008-09-27 19:26:00 We are all paying for Vista whether we like it or not. It is just a part of increased business overheads. R2x1 (4628)
707873 2008-09-27 20:25:00 I am not paying for vista since I still use XP and will continue to do so while I learn Linux gary67 (56)
707874 2008-09-27 23:42:00 When your local shop uses Vista, his costs go up, then the prices go up. You pay. R2x1 (4628)
707875 2008-09-28 00:37:00 Windows 7 is vapourware isn't it :) . Just Microsoft playing its silly marketing games with its competitors. Thats right they have killed them all bar Apple. dolby digital (5073)
707876 2008-09-28 05:32:00 I'd happily pay for Vista, as well as Windows 7 when it comes out - reviews and people who haven't tried it be damned. pcuser42 (130)

It's not that I wouldn't run Vista just I don't have the money to upgrade and XP still does everything I want from an OS

707878 2008-09-30 01:21:00 Windows 7 sounds promising....but so did Vista. --Wolf-- (128)
707879 2008-09-30 02:07:00 They need to fix the crap that is the registry and I reckon it should be more modular so you can install only what you need.

Totally agree - they proved they could with Server 2008 server core.

Yeah and they could do a marketing campaign on tv, they could get Mick Jagger to sing a song. How about "Wake Me Up."
