706535 2008-09-21 09:35:00 Actually I think MS have upset you :)

As wainuitech says, speak to your friendly MS customer services rep and hopefully they can help you.

As you have said, I have also spent a reasonable amount of money with MS over the years and they keep on wanting more and people wonder why I consider Linux and open source software.

I'm a bit puzzled Metla. I have this program already and its active. I thought it was something MS had downloaded into my computer.
But your advice is good.
The only problems I can see at the moment are that my desktop will default to a black background - and that is the format that all my computers are always set at, and also I have a nag note on the desktop. Yee gods some of my very very old DOS programs have nag screens and there is no way to get rid of them as the authors etc seem to have long gone. It doesn't worry me so I can carry on.
In the meantime I will approach MS and see what they offer - I do believe they have some discount offers for circumstances like mine. I am sure I had a legal copy when I first got this computer.
I also wonder - do they have the legal right to interfere with MY computer?

The answer comes down to definitions. You don't "own" software in the normal sense of the word. You own a licence - that's all - so it's really "their" software interfering with your computer (which you agreed to in the EULA...)

You’re right Thomas, it is something Microsoft has loaded onto your computer and you need it like a hole in the head.

As Metla says remove it and you may come right.

There is already a ton of stuff on the internet on how to go about the removal.

Look up WGA or Windows Genuine Advantage, which should read Windows Genuine Disadvantage if you get the drift.

Come on you know that Microsoft knows whats good for you. I wondering how long the marketing department took to come up with the term Windows Genuine Advantage

I really really really do love my Windows pc.
