708373 2008-09-28 19:54:00 I have been thinking of using this (with Vlite) but I really don't like the idea of having to replace all my stuff.

For instance neither of my printers worked at all with the 32bit version. Vista claimed to know what they were and installed a driver, just printing was stuffed up.

I have spent ages looking at varrious printers to see which has an actual manufacturer Vista 64bit driver and the results so far are dismal.
I am not interested in any printer that does less than 800pages per ink cartridge, nor do I want to pay $500 (found one at that price).
I don't much care about multifunction either.

I've found loads of people complaining about the lack of proper drivers and all sorts of work-arounds that don't seem to have worked.

So, what else do I have to change? I don't like Commodo and I know my old ZA Pro v4 won't work.
Imgburn seems To have a version out for it, sick of Nero anyway.....
I have Office XP - compatible or is MS likely to complain about its install?

I use Cuteftp, an old version can't remember which one exactly.

708374 2008-09-28 20:01:00 If you don't like challenges, the easy way out may just be Linux - but then you will lose out on all the fun of wrestling with MS. ;)
Oh no, you will have all those other MS users delivering the daily challenges to your door.

Vista supports versions of Office back to Office 2000, so you'll be OK with that. :)

What is the printer then?.....As for Firewall, I wouldnt bother, being a tech, you would certainly know what files to look out for besides which you are probably behind a router firewall. AFAIK, most 32bit programs install fine on V64, including MS office.

Carts and horses - I just get printers I can use without hassle. I am too old to mess with Winderz these days. Most people disagree and are guided by the marketing wizards, that is fine, MS keeps techs in far more work than the hardware ever will.

Yes thats what I'd like too.
But if I want 4GB+ I need 64bit, and then theres DX10.........so its kind of inevitable...................or shall I wait for Windows 7?
Probably even worse for drivers then..................

A proper linux geek would just write their own drivers.

708381 2008-09-29 19:30:00 My problem is not with drivers.

Vista Ultimate 64 just refuses to install on my computer. Even with a clean drive and formated for fstp.
