My computer crashed and I restored the System drive image - Windows XP Home edition. On starting up Checkdisk blue screen came up and did the check on a backup drive which has a consistence problem getting through to 62% of Stage 1 of 3 and there it hung. Restarted using a boot-up cd and got to 86% on Checkdisk. And so it goes. Should I restore an earlier drive image or would check disk just continue to come up. Incidentally if I boot up into Safe Mode I just get a screenful of data. Any help would be appreciated. |

Sounds like your hard drive is probably failing. Get the UBCD (www.ultimatebootcd.com)and run a diagnostic on it to confirm either way. |

Ditto, suggest you quickly back up your data first either with a Linux live disc(any will do) too.

Thanks wratterus and blam. I got the computer checked at ETC Computers (who I recommend) and they said the backup drive had failed. They removed it and all is well. I'm going to buy an external drive for backup. Cheers. |
