827392 2009-11-05 08:47:00 I have bittorrent 1.8.5 and use http://xtremespeeds.net/ so I can get near immediate access to Motogp, etc.
As many will be aware, users of xtremespeeds must maintain a download/upload share ratio or else get warned/banned.
My issue is that I can't stay connected to peers to upload and improve my ratio. When I am able to connect, the speed is slow or it constantly drops out. Typically, peers appear to be trying to connect but get dropped almost immediately, often times the connect speed ramps down steadily till connection is lost.
Right this minute, I have 2 torrents which I'm attempting to seed. The 1st has 86 seeds & 29 peers. The 2nd has 293 seeds with 40 peers.
The download speed is often very fast. Interestingly enough, if I'm downloading a torrent, it will upload at the same time a lot more healthily than if I'm only seeding it.
Is there a solution? been researching with Google. Learnt lots but haven't solved this puzzle.

Specs.
Vista Sp2, 4gb, phenom quad
Thomson router modem TG585v7
Big time ISP Telecom
Microsoft security essentials virus checker.
Vista firewall.
Port 50089 fowarded
firewall exceptions
Static ip on PC
Not ADSL2+

Tried: firewall disable, antivirus realtime disable, numerous tweaks, Vuze ....

Thanks

P.S. My router reports a problem with: Connectivity to DNS Server 1 (202.27.158.40)
Connectivity to DNS Server 2 (202.27.156.72)

Anyway though, I would try OpenDNS, I'm on Big Time and don't have much trouble keeping a good 1.5 ratio with xtremespeeds. I use it solely for downloading TV shows, which while illegal I don't have a problem with seeing as they are going to be here on fta tv in 6 months. Maybe try grabbing a freeseed or x2 upload torrent?

Also utorrent I reckon behaves better than bittorrent.

827395 2009-11-05 09:56:00 Thanks for pointing that out. It's been a while since I read the rules.
Incidentally, how much of extreme's stuff is pirated?

Actually we have paid the fee to get all the motogp races, practice etc, but it's often unwatchable at the streaming speed of our broadband connection. That was with Ihug/Vodafone as ISP. Cost big money for the season to. It was so choppy it became necessary to download via torrent just so we could see them!! Now we have Big Time I am hoping it will be different. Usually races aired in the "a.m."s are smoother. I guess thats because there's less traffic. Have fingers crossed for Valencia this weekend.

I should try the OpenDNS. Does it need to be set up within the router or Local area connection?

I've got a free-seed. It sort of did help...I think. The whole thing seems to be erratic.

Doesn't matter, but if you do it on the router it'll save you doing it on each PC

827397 2009-11-05 11:53:00 More pieces to the puzzle:
My PC is dual boot Vista & Windows 7
The Thomson router is proving to be a bit tricky. Utorrent's port checker reports different results at subsequent tests. The port testing tool from portforwarding.com is touted to be more accurate.
I now have utorrent set up on 3 different OS's. XP, Vista & 7.
One perplexing part is with the router setup and assigning application to a network device. My quadcore phenom is the dual boot: vista & 7. The router had the option to select the computer name for the 7 OS even though that OS wasnt running at the time. My vista computer name wasnt even listed there. The 7 PC was set was with DHCP. Vista had the static address setup.

827398 2009-11-05 14:40:00 Well, it's 3:30am now and in desparation I swapped out the Thomson router for my older D-link DSL G604T. Google showed there was a number of people complaining about Thomson. It hasnt' improved the situation at all with the 2 uploads I want to seed to square up the ratio. I suppose that rules out the router. There's very little wrong with download speed and to test the theory, I'm downloading something and outside of xtremespeed. Once it concludes I'll gauge the upload speed.
What can I try next??:sleep

I'm pretty sure if you use OpenDNS, you miss out on Telecom's 'high speed' cache.

You do, but that's not going to be an issue if you're torrenting.

827401 2009-11-06 04:54:00 The seed to peer ratio is not in your favour. You are downloading from a lot of seeds and getting good speeds, but there aren't that many people leeching from you.

Some member only sites allow you to donate thru Paypal, essentially buying bandwidth that will increase your ratio. They use the money to pay for bandwidth and server time.

And I want to repeat myself.... not all torrenting is illegal .
