827161 2009-11-04 22:06:00 I'm sorry i didn't post this sooner but ive been down for two days with food poisoning and could barely get the .5 meters from my bed to my computer and type anything, i didn't eat anything in 48 hours because of this. (then i had a subway foot long steak and cheese..... mmmmmmmm, filled me up.)

Haha enough about food for now but this week i decided we would work on the motherboard as this determines the types of ram we could use, the CPU and if we can do sli/crossfire and gives us a rough idea of what our power consumption may be.

Here are my choices, again from playtech. These all support AM3 socket processors:

Asus M4N78 AM2+/AM3 DDR2 ATX Motherboard (www.playtech.co.nz)
Price: $134.52 incl GST and P&H (Rotorua)

ASUS M4A77TD PRO DDR3 Socket AM2+/AM3 ATX Motherboard (www.playtech.co.nz)
Price: $169.43 incl GST and P&H (Rotorua)

Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P AM3 DDR3 ATX Motherboard (www.playtech.co.nz)
Price: Price:$171.41 incl GST and P&H (Rotorua)

Now lets be honest, I don't think the M4N78 stands a chance but I put it in there so I had 3 decently priced motherboards that would do there purpose(moderate-high gaming and office work)

I also picked the AM3 socket because I know I should be able upgrade at anytime to AMD's latest CPU for a few years to come(crosses fingers)

P.S: I received the CM 690 on Tuesday and its great! too bad I dont have anything to put into it yet :)

827162 2009-11-04 22:28:00 BTW: can't get photos yet waiting for a mate to bring over a camera :x too busy spending money on computers to get one myself :) PCT Joe (15018)
827163 2009-11-04 22:32:00 Glad you went with the 690 and glad you like it. The GA-MA770 is the best out of that lot, I voted for the wrong one. :o

TBH if it was me I'd spend a little more and get this.

827164 2009-11-04 23:05:00 I'd make sure the motherboard has a 3 year warranty. Some retailers only
give a 1year even tho manufacturer gives 3year.

Strangely, even on the Gigabyte website they seem to have hidden any mention
of how many years warranty they give..(used to be 3year)

827165 2009-11-04 23:09:00 Asus and Gigabyte have 3 year warranties.

That Asus board I linked to has the new 785G chipset too.

That's a comparable gigabyte board.

More video ports for one, and its also more of a gaming MB(more of those features)

Whats wrong with MATX?

You pay a little more and get a lot more bang for you buck feature wise, also you can get DDR3 RAM and an AM3 processor. The Asus @ CL that I linked to isn't mATX.
