| 708335 | 2008-09-30 00:21:00 | I think a lot of people have unrealistic expectations of IT people. We are somehow not worth as much as, for example, a plumber I can vouch for that! You know in the paper today was a comment about farmers receiving $55 per lamb compared with the supermarkets $300 per lamb sell price. And plumbing parts, utterly sickening, even my husband boggles at his parts bill. You want to see how many $100s the suppliers charge for some stupid plastic connection or just a basic tap. And it goes up every single month. The only thing dirt cheap is PC parts. When you think about the electronics on them and what you can actually accomplish using them its amazing. And our sad little markup on them - lucky if you get 10%. No-one complains about the plumber like they do with the PC Repair person. |

| 708336 | 2008-10-01 09:44:00 | Heres a question - I will be collecting a PC to be looked at while the person is away on holiday - I have to drive 45 minutes into town just to collect it (she doesn't drive)- do the work at the normal hourly rate then drive 45 minutes back to deliver it in two weeks - How would people charge for the 1.5 hours of my time,petrol etc while simply collecting the PC - Would YOU work for 1.5 hours and agree not to get paid in your own job? I charge 30% of my hourly rate for driving time, plus 80 cents per km. If your hourly rate is less than $100 charge 50%. Anything less and it isn't worth leaving the house. I'd offer her the option of paying a fair rate for time & km for pick up and delivery, or she can organise a courier with pre-paid return freight. That or get a friend to deliver it. If she hasn't got any friends, don't be the mug that tries to be her first. Cheers Billy 8-{) |

| 708339 | 2008-10-01 19:14:00 | This is true - everyone who wants to moan about IT repair costs should get a lawyer! :D | wratterus (105) | ||

Thats the catch phase of our local Toyota dealer (as corny as it is). When I had a Toyota and had it serviced there, I complained about the cost of services... ooops ;o) |
