| 708501 | 2008-09-29 21:18:00 | It's not for me. It's for a friend of mine who's an electrician and wishes to keep his own accounts rather than handing everything to an accountant. Ask him what he charges an hour ? most electricians are fairly well off and he should be able to buy a program they are not very dear and he will have it for years. Tell him I will write him a program for free if he will wire up the 12 story apartment building I am starting next week for free ! |

You know you can actually do it yourself - all the info you need is available from IRD and they do actually help if you need it too. As for audits, having an accountant does not make you immune form them. The accountant is not responsible either if there is something dodgy found - the business owner is. Still, I do the lot myself except for the end of year return. I provide the P&L and other relevant bits and my accounting person charges $150 to fill out the actual return and do all those boring calculations I can't be bothered with. And I do everything with Excel. Its simple. |

I can tell a very sad IRD audit story about a businessman who was contacted by the IRD about his business dealings with someone who was being subject to a searching IRD audit, When he refused to co-operate fully and give the IRD info that could nail their target, he suddenly became the centre of interest for an IRD audit |

Totally agree. If there is one thing a business should pay for, is an accountant. Electricians, especially ones that own their own businesses, can earn big wages if they are good, so shouldn't have any problems paying for an accountant. Also MYOB is good software to use. |
