If you havent it wont install ??, Speedy, nothing to do with the board mate, if the chip is 64bit as most if not all are, and the chip has the right socket on the board, all good. AFAIK, all CPU since Core2, Core2Quad, Core solo, AMD64 have been 64bit capable. There was an issue about a new install with 4Gb, good tip there! |

| 708385 | 2008-09-30 02:13:00 | The motherboard is an Asus Striker ll Extreme. With 2000 fsb. Was only released about 4 months ago. Nowhere can I find mention that it supports 64 bits, but by it's age and it's $700+ price tag I assume it is. This MB supports DDR3 ram. I have 4 x 1gid sticks of DDR 3 1600. Have tried installing with just two sticks but same performance. Ram is only 3months old and I have checked it with memtest Firstly I tried to install it over XP. All it did was to ruin XP and jumble up the two other drives I have on the same disk. Disk is a Raptor ll 300+ gigs. Second try. I used the xp disk to rempove partitions and to deep format the entire disk in NTFS. Then try to install umpteen times. Never did I get to the format section or any introductory bits. Sometimes it would jump straight to "installing". and then start. But it never kept going for more than 10/15 minutes. I noticed that when it stopped the red, working, light kept flashing. On one occasion I left it at this stage and. went to bed. Next morning red light still flashing. I have since re-installed XP pro, but I sometimes get the urge to give Ultimate another chance. |
