2009-11-04 07:40:00 | Hello, Im a casual gamer, and i encode videos/ edit videos, etc. What video card - 5770 or 5850 - will be better in terms of future proofing and the playing of DX11 games? I know 5770 is much cheaper, but its performance is less than 5850, which is more. What does everyone think?

2009-11-04 07:57:00 | 5850. The question is a given. In terms of future proofing then the better performing card is the only choice. 'Duh! :D | qazwsxokmijn (102) | |

I know 5770 is much cheaper, but its performance is less than 5850, which is more. What does everyone think? Seriously forget DX11 for this generation, nobody knows how it will perform as there are no DX11 games. By the time it matters (assuming its not another DX10), you will most likely be looking at your next GPU. If you are a "Causal" gamer and money is a consideration go for the 5770, its performance is very good around the speed of a 260GTX, so a good match for 1920x1080 24" monitors or less. The 5850 is of course faster for more dosh. |

2009-11-04 22:10:00 | What do you mean by "Casual" ? (what does anyone mean when they say 'Casual gamer' ?) You play Crysis but only sometimes? In which case you'd still want a fast card, probably...

2009-11-04 22:54:00 | Gaming resolution is really the most important information missing. Crysis at 800x600 is very different than Crysis at 2560x1600 lol But the HD5770 is a very decent gaming card regardless at around $200 cheaper than the 5850. www.techspot.com Mind due in the $300 ish Price bracket id grab a 4890 myself.

2009-11-05 08:24:00 | What do you mean by "Casual" ? (what does anyone mean when they say 'Casual gamer' ? ) You play Crysis but only sometimes ? Thats what I've always believed... Basically, if you game "sometimes" then everything does not have to look the best, it just needs to be decent enough to play. Hardcore gamers on the other hand will want the best card possible at all times, for the best gaming experience... Back to the thread, I would rather get the 4890 over the 5770 in that price bracket as well.. Blam
