709629	2008-10-03 22:51:00	Another one for today . :p I have a electric stove with the glass top . . . ceramic is it? and one of the hot plates censor may have died ? as it always seems to be on full bore even when on a low setting . hence well cooked items . . :( does this mean it will die? or is something fixable? this too is on the fix it list as it has no sealing around the inside of the stove door, so the door gets hot and the handle gets mighty hot if you happen to forget . . . . . but it cooks a lovely meal, roast or cake . . . . . :D beetle:)	beetle (243)
709630	2008-10-03 23:05:00	Hi Beetle. We just had the same with a ceramic top. Smallest/most useful hob ring refused to run on anything but high. Cost $78 to fix. The device cost $28.50, the callout was $40, labour was the rest. But it means for a happier household. This week. Again, good luck.	Scouse (83)

It's quite expensive, but does a good job .	somebody (208)

709637	2008-10-05 08:11:00	It sounds like you need a simmerstat. (But then it needs to be fitted.) It seems to be a fancy thermostat: An electrical control device which turns a heating element such as a stove hotplate or grill on and off in a fixed cycle. The control knob on the simmerstat determines what proportion is spent on, and what off. For example with the knob turned to a quarter it might use a cycle of 5 seconds on then 15 seconds off, thus giving roughly a quarter of the heating element's full power. 709638	2008-10-05 08:30:00	Sort of an el-cheapo version of a thermostat. It is time dependent (sorta) and takes no notice of the element temperature. It has a thermal switch with associated internal heater that turns on when cold. When the wee heater has warmed up the switch enough, the thing turns off both the element and it's own heater. When the switch has cooled sufficiently it turns on again and repeats the cycle. The little heater seems to be the weak link in the switch, when it burns out, the switch stays cold and the element remains turned on so gives your pan a roasting.	R2x1 (4628)
