828291 2009-11-08 22:26:00 Hi, I brought my new Windows 7 laptop a day ago and everytime I log-in it comes up saying "setting up windows for the first time". I can ALT + F4 it to logon faster but doesn't make a difference, when I login automatically, which I shouldn't because the account has a password, it shows a sysprep application, I usually close this as when I run it it comes up telling me a fatal error has occured. When I log-off, the account I was logged into does not appear, making me unable to delete it.

So my problem is, what can I do to stop it saying that it is setting up for the first and having sysprep appear everytime. And also how can I override in ways it to delete user account.

Thanks.

828292 2009-11-08 22:29:00 Sounds a bit like the original Setup was faulty - since its a New Laptop, run the full system recovery back to new using the recovery partition. Hopefully the image is not a damaged one. wainuitech (129)
828293 2009-11-08 22:40:00 Ok thanks, could you tell me the steps to help me do so. Craig Mellor (13762)
828294 2009-11-08 22:48:00 Assuming it has a recovery partition, there is a sequence of keys to press to activate the recovery partition.

Sometimes it will flash quickly along the bottom of the screen on the boot up which function key to press to boot into the recovery partition , could be F10, F11 or F12 - just depending on the Brand, you may also need to press the FN key at the same time. This will set it back to factory new.

Edited: IF however the recovery partition / Image is also faulty ( sometimes happens) then it will simply remain the same. IF this is the case, take it back to who ever you got it from and they have to replace it as it will be faulty.

828295 2009-11-08 22:58:00 On the boot screen it says down the bottom F2 - Setup and F12 - Boot - or something similar. I have previously pressed F8 and that comes up with a screen about running in safe mode, enable bootlog, enable debugger, etc.

I will restart my computer now and try numerious combinations of keys, thanks. will post back shortly.

828296 2009-11-08 23:14:00 I was unable to find anything to do with recovery partitions, or recovery for the matter, I pressed F2, F8 - F12 and nothing. The laptop is Toshiba if it helps? Can I do a restore through windows when logged on instead of when booting? Craig Mellor (13762)
828297 2009-11-08 23:15:00 No because you cant be in windows when you format. Try F10 or 11. Speedy Gonzales (78)
828298 2009-11-08 23:21:00 F10 just brang up information about my system for a second and F11 did nothing. Craig Mellor (13762)
828299 2009-11-08 23:27:00 Look on the post screen, it should tell you what key to press. Or press the rest of the F keys. If none work, then you have a prob Speedy Gonzales (78)
828300 2009-11-08 23:56:00 None of the 'F' keys did anything special. But I had been noticing everytime I log in, behind the sysprep application, flashes for a mere second a info box with 2 available options, what is says I wouldn't know as I barely get a glimpe, but after 10 or so restarts I decide to mash the enter key and see what comes up, so as I'm mashing nothing out of the ordinary happens except that sysprep runs as normal, except this time it does not come up with an error, it restarts my computer and does the setup routine I did when I first got it, completed all steps, seemed a bit sketchy at the part where the message I dread comes up, but finally went to log in screen, so far so good, login, sysprep doesn't appear, so I'm guessing its all go now.

Thanks for everyones help.

Also, how do I assign a signature, unable to find the option in my profile? thanks.
