Sweet deal, $200 up-front + $30 a month, and I don't have to pay first installment until next bill... Anyways install was nice, the wireless adapter was a real bonus (Just don't tell Telecom that I'm using WiFi or no doubt they'll blame it on that, even though it's connected at ~54mbps) and everything works real good ... with the exception of the streaming video. So a quick check while trying to download some Britney Spears shows that (Yep, you guessed it) TCP Port 80 is being used for the video streaming. Fail Telecom, epic fail... Anyways I noticed a few other ports, 5223, 7287 / 7288 and 2190 (Internal LAN-only, broadcasting), but it downloads its video via Port 80. Now I know my speeds are good, getting 400KB/sec (3200kbps) when I fire up a download to a few different servers (In the US and in NZ) straight afterwards. When you queue the Music Video up, it tells you the size (40MB) and that I've got 10 minutes to start watching it, then 5 minutes to complete watching it. Normally that wouldn't be an issue, 400KB/sec means it'd be downloaded in all of < 2 minutes, but due to Traffic Management, it doesn't even start ... So I wrote another nasty email to the Helpdesk, have written several in the last 2 weeks complaining about their escalation process, that they've not heard anything from the team, requesting that they chase the team dealing with the issue for an update etc etc. and hopefully I'll hear back. Either way I'm on the phone first thing on Monday to complain when they open. I also again told them there's no way I'm switching plans, it'd be too expensive for my usage patterns and I would be better off staying with Orcon. Time will tell ... In the mean time, everything else with TiVo seems to work well. I'm off to play with FreeNAS on my Alix.6b2 and my shiney new WDTV Live before bed :) Silly Win7 sharing with the WDTV Live doesn't seem to work (known bug) but other than that I'm stoaked with these two lil devices! :punk |

Have I missed something? Whats wrong with Port 80 being used for the video streaming/downloading??, as far as I am aware all/most video streaming goes thought port 80 (It does not matter if it for the TiVo or with a computer, it all goes thought port 80)  |
