| 710732 | 2008-10-11 10:46:00 | Petty little capitalists. Why should anyone own more than they need? To sell/rent it to someone else for a higher price than they would have to pay for it if they could buy it direct. Makes me sick that people prey off others like that. Those who have more money get to run everyone else's lives, that is what the government should put a stop to. "This, then, is our answer. We have no words to waste on you. When you reach out your vaunted strong hands for our palaces and purpled ease, we will show you what strength is. In roar of shell and shrapnel and in whine of machine-guns will our answer be couched. We will grind you revolutionists down under our heel, and we shall walk upon your faces. The world is ours, we are its lords, and ours it shall remain. As for the host of labor, it has been in the dirt since history began, and I read history aright. And in the dirt it shall remain so long as I and mine and those that come after us have the power. There is the word. It is the king of words--Power. Not God, not Mammon, but Power. Pour it over your tongue till it tingles with it. Power." Jack London Scum. |

| 710733 | 2008-10-11 10:58:00 | Your right, and shops should sell everything for cost, and we should all wear the same style clothes, and everyone can have nothing, and that nothing can be coloured grey. How dare anyone use there brains or effort to accomplish anything for themselves. Were you an ant in a prior life? I take it you already live the life you advocate and give away anything and everything you earn, after all, there are many with less no matter how little you may have. |

| 710734 | 2008-10-11 16:05:00 | . . . and if private citizens didn't own rental properties, who would provide accommodation for those who didn't own their own house? Ooh, I know, the Gummint . Oops, who enables the Gummint with their taxes? Ooh, I know - the 'rich', that zqwerty despises so much . :groan: :groan: :groan: Communism worked so well for the Eastern Bloc, that they all gave it up some time ago . Even China is trying to move away from it . . Capitalism isn't perfect, but it's a hell of a lot better than the alternatives . |

Pour it over your tongue till it tingles with it. Power." Jack London Scum. Jack London owned a 1000 acre farm, and wrote "... a book for no other reason than to add three or four hundred acres to my magnificent estate." I'm sure he didn't need the extra land... Also this (also from Wikipedia): "The ranch was, by most measures, a colossal failure. Sympathetic observers such as Stasz treat his projects as potentially feasible, and ascribe their failure to bad luck or to being ahead of their time. Unsympathetic historians such as Kevin Starr suggest that he was a bad manager, distracted by other concerns and impaired by his alcoholism. Starr notes that London was absent from his ranch about six months a year between 1910 and 1916, and says "He liked the show of managerial power, but not grinding attention to detail . London's workers laughed at his efforts to play big-time rancher [and considered] the operation a rich man's hobby." London spent $80,000 to build a 15,000-square foot stone mansion on the property. Just as the mansion was nearing completion, two weeks before the Londons planned to move in, the mansion was completely destroyed by fire." [My bolding] en.wikipedia.org Looks to me like he was a 'petty little capitalist'. I read your quote as a sneering warning to the 'revolutionists' from the point of view as a 'rich prick'.... Be interesting to hear exactly what the context is... |

| 710737 | 2008-10-11 22:35:00 | Get a job that pays more - or will that involve working too hard?? LOL doing what may i ask? Ive just recently spent 4 years of study to be trained as a teacher and still am studying to complete teacher reg, and you think i may need to change jobs? LOL I absoloutly love my job i work with mainstrem children and special needs children and it is very rewarding...... the biggest problem i have is i am the lone adult and wage earner in my house trying to raise two children and not worl full time and miss out on their lives completely. its not all about money, but being comfortable in what you do and how you live helps. i am in no hurry to change my job...... but thank you for the idea....... :) and the tax cuts to me arnt a big deal, but it would be nice to earn slightly more and not have to budget quite so tigthly. beetle :) |

Although there would be tremendous job satisfaction, working with littlies can be absolutely exhausting. They cannot sit back and rest for a single minute. In a lot of ways, it is like nursing, the dedication it takes, is never measured in terms of what we should value. |

| 710739 | 2008-10-12 00:29:00 | I'd agree that teachers deserve to be paid well, But only if they weed out the idiots. At school I came across numerous small minded petty ignorant twats so stuck in there little world (school) that they couldn't think straight let alone expand the minds of others. | Metla (12) | ||
