710966 2008-10-09 21:09:00 I would prefer MS just made a better product, that could sell under its own strength. Then there would be no need to even have a kill-by date for XP, it would sell until its natural life finished, and then it would sell no more.

MS would still be filthy rich, and the punters would have a product that suits.

710967 2008-10-09 22:36:00 Do programs work like that?.
Seems to be an endless supply of apps and god only knows what else to take into consideration, all for the lowest common denominator.

If that is no help I will ring my pal Bill who will tell it from the horses mouth, with luck he might empty his change pocket into my bank.

Change pocket contents = National debt of NZ, so here is hoping.

710968 2008-10-09 23:51:00 Some people still use applications designed for MSDOS & give you a very dirty look if you suggest they upgrade Greven (91)
710969 2008-10-10 02:38:00 I'm still using Office 97 on a 6 year old PC. If it works, why change? My computer still manages power on to a usable XP desktop within a minute.

Just because a new version of software is available doesn't mean you have to change :p

710972 2008-10-10 21:50:00 When I first boot up with no programs open (only the standard startup programs like virus, firewall, msn etc), my ram usage is about 210mb.

Word 97 uses about 7.6mb just after opening it and loads instantaneously. There -are- some features that have been introduced over the decade between Word 97 and Word 2007, but they aren't core to the main function of word processing :p
