Years ago the average wage was made high because of people like wharfies who earned far more than most workers. I would have thought that the median wage would be around $ 31,000. Exactly! Why didn't the media quote the difference between the average wage and the median wage? No, don't answer that. A huge number of people are being paid well under the figure quoted. |

| 710706 | 2008-10-09 03:52:00 | Don't forget that we would not be getting ANY tax cuts unless National had promised them a year ago. It was only then the Cullen had to bring in Labour's tax cuts. The Nats are almost Labour in sheeps clothing these days. Tax is is all about the fairest way of getting cash off it's citizens for supporting the overall needs of us. If we get big tax cuts, the country either needs to borrow from overseas, or work out a way of making more money from exports. The policies over the last 8-10 yeasr have not supported exporters and we have seen manufacturing move offshore, and we have seen a shift of wealth to third world countries like china and india. There is really no long term vision from any of the parties. The Nats do have some, but not enough, Lab has none. |
